What types of Furnaces can Akron Home Insulators restore and repair?

We restore and maintain all major furnace, heat pump, and boiler brands!  If your heating system is undersized or no longer efficient, we can help with that too, providing high-efficiency furnaces, boilers, and heat pumps from reputable brands.  There is never any pressure to sell you a new appliance!

  • Gas Furnaces - Also known as Combustion Furnaces - are among the most prevalent heating systems in Ohio, with approximately 63% of homes using this type.  These furnaces run on natural gas, utilizing combustion to produce heat that is then circulated throughout the home via ventilation ducts.  Operating with a burner or pilot light within a combustion chamber to ignite fuel, gas furnaces channel the resulting heat over a heat exchanger, separating it from the gases that generated it before releasing the warmth into the home.

  • Electric Furnaces - Employing electrical resistance to generate heat, these furnaces have surged in popularity in Ohio, claiming the second spot after gas furnaces due to advancements in energy efficiency and the escalating costs of natural gas. Accounting for about 26% of Ohio homes, electric furnaces must not be misinterpreted as portable electric heaters. Instead, they are fixed appliances, requiring semi-permanent installation and only being relocated when replacing irreparable units.

  • Boilers - Operating on fuel sources like natural gas, propane, or electricity, boilers heat water that is then distributed through pipes to radiators, which emit heat as the hot water passes through them.  The water returns to the boiler after circulating, where it is reheated and redistributed.  Renowned for their efficiency, boilers come in three primary types: Fire-Tube Boilers, Water-Tube Boilers, and Combination Boilers, blending attributes of both varieties.

  • Heat Pumps - Capable of both heating and cooling functions, heat pumps can be adjusted for use in both summer and winter. Functioning with two components - an indoor and an outdoor unit - heat pumps utilize thermodynamics and a refrigeration cycle to transfer heat rather than generating it, as traditional furnaces do. During the heating process, heat is extracted from the outdoor unit, causing a refrigerant to evaporate at low pressures. Then a compressor elevates the refrigerant's pressure, increasing its temperature. The heated refrigerant moves to the indoor unit, where it condenses, releasing heat into the home through a coil. This process reverses when the heat pump is in cooling mode.

Measuring refrigerant pressure and temperatures on a Central Air Conditioner

What types of Air Conditioning can we Repair, Maintain, and Install?

We restore and maintain all major Air Conditioner types and brands!  If your cooling system is undersized or no longer efficient due to age, we can help with that too, providing high-efficiency air conditioning units from reputable brands.  There is never any pressure to sell you a new appliance!

  • Central Air Conditioning Systems - This type of residential air conditioning unit is a key focus of our maintenance and repair services.  Central air conditioners are the most commonly found A/C in residential settings, with window units being the other most prevalent option, typically replaced rather than repaired.  Central systems operate as a single unit, drawing in warm indoor air over refrigerant-filled coils to cool and dehumidify it before circulating the refreshed air throughout the house.  The expelled hot air is vented to the outdoors, thus sustaining the cooling cycle.

  • Split Package Air Conditioning Systems - These systems are a highly favored choice for light commercial use, employing both indoor and outdoor units to facilitate cooling.  The indoor and outdoor components collaborate to transform warm refrigerant gas into a cooled liquid state through a process known as a Phase Change.  This method efficiently converts thermal energy by continually altering the state of a conductive medium from liquid to gas using pressure and valves.  The rapid loss of thermal energy during this transition results in effective cooling, making Phase Change cooling the optimal choice for efficiency.

  • Mini Split Air Conditioning Systems - These are compact versions of split package air conditioning systems designed for residential use.  Consisting of at least two units, an indoor evaporator and an outdoor condenser, mini-split systems can feature multiple indoor units for zoned heating and cooling purposes, allowing different rooms or areas within the home to be maintained at varying temperatures.  With features such as variable speeds and temperature controls, mini-splits achieve a higher Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) compared to traditional Central AC systems.
